Effective January 2015, Lac Ste. Anne Council adopted a Business License Bylaw. The old system of issuing Business/Development permits created a difficult situation from a planning perspective. The business license was tied to the land rather than the business, potentially limiting the protection of County infrastructure and property rights of others.
Additionally, the new business license bylaw allows the County to collect information on businesses to allow economic development efforts to be focused on the strengths of business already operating successfully in the region.
Why the need for a Business License Bylaw?
- Businesses with an old business license/development permit will receive a complimentary 2015 business license.
- Licensed businesses will benefit from the economic development efforts of Lac Ste. Anne County.
- The business license fee is $50 annually and used exclusively to administer the program and fund economic development.
- Many business types are exempted from the business license bylaw including farming, market vendors, most non-profit organizations (e.g. Avon, Pantry Chef, Scentsy), and many others. The full list of exemptions is included in the bylaw
