Finance Technician - Parental Leave Back Fill

Lac Ste. Anne County is seeking a qualified Finance professional to join our Team.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Technician is responsible for performing reconciliations, journal entries, reporting and other financial tasks within the Finance Department. This is to fill a parental leave with a period of up to 14 months. 

Key Duties/Responsibilities

The successful incumbent will hold responsibility for the following essential functions (but not limited to):

  • Complete all monthly balancing, reconciling, and applying penalties to the Accounts Receivable system for the County, Commissions and all related entities. 
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank statements and balance sheet accounts for the County, Commissions and all related entities. 
  • Administer and maintain all cash payment options for customers. 
  • Assist the Finance Manager with financial transactions, inventories, capital assets and financial statements. 
  • Administer accounts receivables in bad standing with the Collection Agency. 
  • Balance all related accounts with respect to returned payments. 
  • Assist Billing Clerk with duties related to Utility Billing for Commissions and all related entities.
  • Post all cash receipts and perform all duties in the absence of the Billing Clerk for Commissions and all related entities.
  • Perform all related monthly financial reporting for all entities under contract with the County. 
  • Assist in budget preparations. 
  • Assist County staff with financial related questions or duties.  
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and duties as required by the Finance Manager.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 
  • Experience in a municipal environment would be considered an asset. 
  • Previous experience working in accounting or finance preferably in the public sector/municipal organization.  
  • Experience and expertise in the use of Excel. 

Skills and Attributes

  • Considerable knowledge of current principles, practices, and techniques relating to accounting and finance, specifically related to the Municipal Government Act, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical information in a concise manner.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven to continuously improve and add value to the organization.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and the flexibility to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, with immaculate attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and able to develop relationships with various levels of management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting.

 



Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, based on 35 hours per week; overtime availability required.
