Lac Ste. Anne County is seeking a qualified Community Peace Officer

Lac Ste. Anne County is seeking a Level 1 Community Peace Officer as part of its Enforcement Services Team.  Reporting to the Enforcement Services Manager, this position is responsible to provide effective patrols, investigation and enforcement of all applicable municipal bylaws and authorized provincial legislation through various means such as attempting to obtain voluntary compliance, issuing warnings, orders, and/or violation tickets as applicable. 

Responsibilities

Duties may include (but are not limited to):

• Enforce select Provincial Statutes as authorized through Lac Ste. Anne County's Authorization to Employ or Engage Peace Officers, and as granted through the individual Peace Officer Appointments. 
• Investigate Lac Ste. Anne County's Municipal Bylaw complaints and disputes, and ensures appropriate resolutions by fine, order, or education.
• Patrol, investigate and respond to complaints and otherwise perform enforcement within the County according to the priorities assigned. 
• Collect evidence, document and report on activities and investigations, and maintain and process exhibits according to Provincial Court Regulations.  Prepare court briefs and disclosure documents and provide evidence in court when required. 
• Ensure proper issuance of violation tickets/tags, orders, summons, subpoenas and any other documentation under authority granted through the Peace Officer Appointment.  
• Attend meetings as required.
• Complete all reports and tasks in a timely manner. 
• Maintain excellent communication and public relations with ratepayers, fellow staff members, County Council and all other related third parties. 
• Adhere to the County's health and safety policies and comply with all safe work procedures and monitor and enforce compliance with the health and safety program. 

Qualifications

• Capable of obtaining a Community Peace Officer Level 1 appointment through the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Department. 
• Complete all required training and certifications as required under the Alberta Peace Officer's Act. 
• Maintain First Aid and CPR Certification. 
• Post Secondary degree or diploma in Criminal Justice, Law and Governance or a Law Enforcement related field would be considered an asset. 
• Current knowledge of relevant legislation and familiarity with enforcement procedures. 
• Must provide a clear criminal records check upon employment. 
• Possess a valid Alberta drivers license. 
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with a focus on customer service. 
• Flexibility of hours due to occasional overtime and attendance at various County meetings and activities. 
• Proven abilities to liaise with internal and external government/municipal departments, police, or other community services, clients and staff members to achieve positive results. 
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and familiarity with reporting software.   

Salary: $69,052 - $81,860 annually.
Benefits: Full benefits package available.
Hours of work: Shift work, based on a 40 hour work week, is required.
