County Adopts Knox Box Program

Parent Category: News Fire Services News

As part of a collaborative regional initiative, Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services has adopted the Knox Box program — and with it, a system that allows first responders to gain access to a home within seconds in a life-threatening or critical situation.

The Knox Box program is an effort by Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services to provide property owners in the region with a secure system that allows rapid, non-destructive, emergency access to residential and commercial buildings.

A Knox Box is a secure key vault that is installed on the exterior of a building near the main entrance. This box contains building keys to provide access for Fire Services crews in emergency situations. Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services maintains master keys for the Knox Boxes in secure locations.

Knox Box is presently the County's only approved key lock box program. Other participating municipalities to date include the cities of Edmonton, Spruce Grove, Fort Saskatchewan and Leduc; the Town of Mayerthorpe; and Strathcona County.

If your business is protected by a fire alarm and/or sprinkler system, or you have elevators in your building, you will need to install a fire department lock box. A demonstration of the system can be provided at the County Administration Office. Alternately, a Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services representative can bring a remote training box to a location of your choice.
