The 9th annual Alberta Open Farm Days returns this August 14-15, and registration begins now.
Alberta Open Farm Days is a collaborative, province-wide, two-day event that allows Albertans to experience the farm and understand where their food comes from. It is a backstage pass to meet the farmer, experience Ag-tourism in Alberta, and taste local foods direct from the producer.
In 2020 we had 77 farms participate in Open Farm Days with over $97,000 in farms sales happening over the weekend, despite being the first event to be held in the province since the pandemic started. After Open Farm Days began in 2012, more than $995,000 has been generated in on-farm sales across the province, with almost 135,000 visits across farms.
Farms can choose which day (or both days) they wish to open their gates and are provided with insurance specific for the event at no cost to them in addition to coaching for culinary/food events and help with marketing their event. When surveyed, 100% of farms said they would participate in Open Farm Days again.
If you are interested in registering as a host farm, be sure to sign up before the May 31 deadline.
