2021 Census: Make Sure You're Counted

The 2021 Census is being conducted throughout the month of May. Please complete and submit your census before the deadline.  By doing so, your feedback will affect important decisions on how to best support the region's families, communities and businesses.

Information from the Census of Population is essential to all communities and is vital for planning schools, hospitals, family services, public transportation, and skills training for employment. Farm operators must also complete a ‘Census of Agriculture’ questionnaire.

Now more than ever, it's crucial that all of us complete the census. The 2021 Census will help us to better understand the impacts of the pandemic for different population groups and communities across the country and ensure we have good data for planning for a post-pandemic recovery and beyond.

How to Complete the Census

The Census Program has adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that the 2021 Census of Population and Census of Agriculture are conducted throughout the country in the best possible way, using a safe and secure approach. Statistics Canada has sent out census cards to every household, with most Canadians getting theirs in early May. These cards include a code to enter online to complete the questionnaire on the Stats Can website. If you wish to complete the questionnaire over the phone or want to request a paper copy, call 1.877.885.2021 and follow the instructions.

In cases where a Statistics Canada census employee is sent to a dwelling for non-response follow-up, a new no-contact protocol will be followed. Under this protocol, no interviews will be conducted inside the respondent’s residence. These interviews will instead be physically distanced, and the census employee will be required to wear a mask and follow all public health guidelines.
