County Hosts Drive-Thru Playschool Grad

Fun and excitement was in the air as Community Services team members Sheila Albertson and Vivian McDonald hosted a special "Drive-Thru" ceremony to honour the 2020 Onoway Playschool graduates.

On Wednesday May 27 and Thursday May 28, the County's Playschool staff staged the ceremony in the parking lot of the Playschool program at the Onoway Heritage Centre. In total, 43 vehicles with excited Playschool graduates took part in the festivities.

To keep everyone safe, all students and their families were required to stay in their vehicles and the Playschool staff wore masks and sanitized between vehicles.

Ceremony Stations

Three stations were set up for the Drive-Thru ceremony. At the first station, Mrs. Albertson handed each child their graduation mortarboard cap - which was theirs to keep. At the second station (which included a bubble machine blowing continuous bubbles!) Mrs. McDonald handed out graduation certificates, and at the third station a volunteer took one-of-a-kind graduation photos of each child in their vehicle sporting their graduation cap and certificate.

Drive-Thru Playschool Grad 2020 It was a smashing success - and a breath of fresh air during a time of heaviness and uncertainty. Following the abrupt cancellation of the Playschool program due to COVID-19 in mid-March, staff, students and parents alike were very happy to be able to say a proper good-bye.
