Emergency Preparedness: Creating a Plan

Are you as prepared as you could be for wildfires, tornadoes, storms, evacuations and other disasters? Consider creating an emergency plan.

Emergencies and disasters come in many shapes and forms, and it's essential to stay informed about the many potential risks they carry to you and your property. An emergency disaster plan can help you manage the stress of a crisis situation. Take steps to create an emergency plan so that you can be prepared.

An emergency plan includes:

  • Deciding who your out of town contact will be. If your family has been separated during an emergency, an out of town contact can serve as a central checkpoint.
  • Creating an emergency preparedness kit including rations, a flashlight, medical supplies and a windup radio.
  • Staying informed using the online resources provided by Alberta.
  • Teaching children basic safety instructions and familiarizing them with the emergency plan.
